Unintentional extubation or unplanned extubations (UE) are positively
associated with increased rates of ventilator-associated pneumonia.
They also lead to an increase in hospital/ICU length of stay (LOS). In the
neonatal ICU (NICU), UEs have been reported to be the 4th most frequent
adverse event with rates that are as high as 80.8%[1-2]. Intubated patients
are also at the risk of UEs, lip/skin injury and/or contaminations.
Unplanned extubation happens in 3% to 16% of mechanically ventilated patients, according to a 2011 review in Critical Care, and every accidental tube removal risks reintubation, airway trauma, and a longer stay in the ICU. Tape alone can loosen with moisture, movement, or skin oils. The Snowhite endotracheal tube stabilization device is built to hold the tube in place more reliably than tape, without adding tape residue or skin irritation.
The Snowhite is an endotracheal tube stabilization device, a tapeless holder that secures the ETT and helps prevent unplanned extubation. It uses a breathable fabric strap and micro-hook fastening instead of adhesive tape, and fits patients across the full-size range, from neonates to adults.
We built the Snowhite for units where tube stability can’t depend on how well tape holds up over hours or days. The device is designed to reduce lip and skin injury compared with tape, while helping lower the risk of contamination and ventilator-associated pneumonia linked to a poorly secured airway.
How Does the Snowhite Stabilize the Endotracheal Tube?
The Snowhite secures the tube with a polypropylene stopper and PVC tube guide, then fastens to the patient’s face using a breathable brush-fabric strap and micro-hook closure instead of adhesive.
Tapeless Micro-Hook Fastening
The micro-hook fastening system holds the strap in place without adhesive, so clinicians can adjust or reposition the tube without applying fresh tape or risking skin damage from repeated tape removal.
Breathable Fabric and Patient Comfort
The brush fabric strap is designed to stay comfortable against the skin for extended wear, which matters for patients who stay intubated for days rather than hours.
Key Features of the Snowhite ETT Stabilization Device
We built the Snowhite to meet ACLS guidelines while cutting the risks that come with tape-based securement.
Who Is the Snowhite Stabilization Device For?
The Snowhite suits NICU, PICU, and adult ICU teams managing intubated patients who need reliable tube securement without relying on tape. It fits long-stay patients especially well, where repeated tape changes add both skin risk and staff time.

What is an endotracheal tube stabilization device used for?
An endotracheal tube stabilization device secures a breathing tube in place after intubation, helping prevent unplanned extubation. The Snowhite uses a tapeless, micro-hook fastening system instead of adhesive tape to hold the tube securely.
How common is unplanned extubation in the ICU?
Unplanned extubation occurs in an estimated 3% to 16% of mechanically ventilated patients, according to a 2011 review in Critical Care. Reliable tube securement, like the Snowhite provides, is one of the factors care teams use to reduce that risk.
Is the Snowhite suitable for neonatal patients?
Yes, the Snowhite is built for patients of all sizes, from neonates to adults. Its tapeless design is intended to reduce lip and skin injury, which matters for the more fragile skin of neonatal and pediatric patients.
How does the Snowhite differ from tape-based ETT securement?
The Snowhite uses a breathable fabric strap with micro-hook fastening instead of adhesive tape, so it avoids the skin breakdown and residue that come with repeated tape changes. It complies with Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) guidelines.
