Medi Foam

Ceumed has developed a range of MediFoam mattresses which is ideal for all healthcare environments and is used as an aid in the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers and for a comfortable sleep. It is a soft and flexible mattress replacement that is placed directly on the bed and replaces both the standard mattress and mattress pad. It has very good pressure redistribution properties and is also equipped with the unique foam combination to reduce surface pressure, leads to relief from numbness by improving blood circulation and muscle relaxation, while also offering good comfort in lying position.

Medifoam Mattress for Pressure Ulcer Prevention and Treatment

Not every patient at risk of pressure ulcers needs an electric, air-cell mattress system. A 2015 Cochrane review of 59 trials found that switching from a standard hospital foam mattress to a high-specification foam mattress cut pressure ulcer incidence by about 60%. The Medi Foam mattress is built around that finding, replacing a standard mattress with a high-resilience foam core designed for everyday pressure ulcer prevention and treatment.

What Is the Medi Foam Mattress?

The Medi Foam is a foam mattress for pressure ulcers, a static, high-resilience foam mattress replacement built to prevent and treat pressure ulcers up to category 2. It replaces both a standard hospital mattress and pad in one unit.

We built the Medi Foam for the day-to-day pressure ulcer risk most patients face, not just the highest-acuity cases that need an active air-cell system. Its foam core equalizes pressure through a modular structure rather than pumps or air cells, so there’s no control unit to manage.

How Does the Medifoam Mattress Redistribute Pressure?

The Medi Foam uses a high-resilience cold foam core that equalizes pressure across the body through its modular structure, while a vapor-permeable cover manages moisture and reduces shear force at the skin.

High-Resilience Cold Foam Core

The foam core is highly elastic and modular, spreading body weight across a wider surface than a standard foam mattress, which is the mechanism behind the Cochrane-reported reduction in pressure ulcer incidence.

Shear Force and Moisture Management

The cover is vapor-permeable, reducing the skin maceration risk that comes with trapped moisture, while the foam’s design is built to minimize shear force as patients shift position.

Who Is the Medifoam Mattress For?

The Medifoam suits general wards, long-term care facilities, and home care settings managing patients at risk of, or already living with, pressure ulcers up to category 2. It supports patients up to 180 kg without requiring an electric control unit.

What is a foam mattress for pressure ulcers used for?

A foam mattress for pressure ulcers redistributes body weight to reduce sustained pressure on at-risk skin, helping prevent and treat pressure ulcers. The Medi Foam uses a high-resilience foam core to do this without an electric pump or control unit.

How effective are high-specification foam mattresses at preventing pressure ulcers?

A 2015 Cochrane review of 59 randomized trials found high-specification foam mattresses reduced pressure ulcer incidence by about 60% compared with standard hospital foam mattresses. The Medi Foam is built around that same high-resilience foam approach.

What’s the difference between the Medifoam mattress and an electric air-cell mattress?

The Medi Foam is a static foam mattress with no pump, control unit, or power supply, while electric air-cell mattresses use active pressure cycling instead. The Medi Foam suits category 1-2 pressure ulcer risk, while air-cell systems typically cover higher-acuity cases.

How much weight can the Medifoam mattress support?

The Medi Foam supports patients up to 180 kg and is available in 12 cm or 16 cm height options. It comes with a 2-year warranty and a machine-washable cover rated up to 95°C.
